We’re heading into Memorial Day Weekend, which means Sunday is the Indianapolis 500 car race. To get into the racing mood, I’ve gathered some race-themed crochet patterns you might be interested in. I know you have kids and grandkids who are huge race car lovers. If they’re anything like my boys, they’re watching the Disney Cars movies on repeat!
A holiday weekend is a perfect time to relax with family and friends and get some extra crochet time and a fun new project.
How Can You Use a Racing-Themed Crochet Project?
New Baby, Birthday, or Christmas Gift
You and I both know that many race car fans are under the age of 8, and not because they actually watch car races. They’re fans of toy race cars that they can drive all around. My kids are constantly using their imagination to build race tracks all over the house. They’ll set up side-by-side tracks and hold duels to see which car is the fastest car of all.
There are several crochet patterns out there that you can use to make race track blankets that can double as a car mat for playtime and a cozy layer at bedtime. For the littlest car lovers, how about making them a stuffed car or lovey that they can take with them on the go.
Halloween Costumes
I mentioned the Disney Cars movies earlier and I know there are so many Lightning McQueen, Cruz Ramirez, and Jackson Storm fans. How cute would it be to make them their very own hat or shirt to help them dress like their favorite character? Once Halloween is over, they can wear parts of their costume for the rest of the year!
Bedroom Decor
Take your love of race cars to the next level and decorate an entire kid’s bedroom with racing items. Blankets, playmats, wall hangings, and vehicles themselves are just a few of the things you could make that will take a room to the next level. I don’t have to tell you how special someone will feel when they know you handmade something special just for them.
Race Party or Tailgating Party
Whether you attend the race in person or watch from the comfort of your couch, I think you can agree with me that it’s extra fun when you get a little festive. You can decorate your mantle with flags or create a wall-hanging. Even take the decorations on the road and hang them from your truck tailgate or tent. Become the envy of the block or snake pit with your festive race decorations!
