It’s always shawl weather, right? Summer is just starting to heat up here in Indiana, and this easy crochet shawl pattern is perfect for when you want to make yourself a lightweight layer that is both stylish and warm.

Because it uses beginner stitches and a two-row repeat, the pattern itself is considered easy. I would call this one of those ‘mindless’ or ‘brainless’ patterns that advanced crocheters can whip up quickly while enjoying their favorite shows or a ballgame. Adventurous beginners can use this pattern to improve their pattern reading skills and practice stitch combinations.

You will love how double crochet stitches in a two-row repeat create those little peepholes and give this shawl its style. It involves skipping some stitches, so you need to be able to count stitches and recognize where to put stitches.

In addition to the written pattern, I’ve added a detailed, step-by-step photo tutorial and a stitch chart to the premium PDF so that regardless of your pattern-reading abilities, you will be able to make this shawl like a pro.

Introducing the Double Peephole Crochet Shawl Pattern

I’ve been wanting to work with Lion Brand Mandala yarn for a while now and was really excited to use it in a shawl design. You may know that I absolutely love crocheting prayer shawls, and the size of this shawl is perfect for a friend or loved one that is dealing with a hardship or loss. It’s big enough to use as a modified blanket if your loved one is bedridden. You can even create your own size with some additional foundation chains. Simple as that!

This yarn is so squishy and soft and comes in so many amazing colorways. I think there’s a color for everyone and every occasion! The weight and texture are so lovely that if you’re making this as a gift, you might end up making an extra one for yourself. Or, if you’re making it for yourself, be prepared that friends and family might want one too.

With self-striping yarn, the yarn does all the work, so the stitches and texture are very straightforward and the stripes add the oomph. An added bonus is that the colors change all on their own and you don’t have to weave in all those ends! So you get done with the shawl and only have a handful of ends from where you joined new yarn cakes. High fives all around!

I found myself saying “just one more row” because I loved watching the colors change and was excited to see how it was looking each time a new color showed up.

The weight of this shawl is enough to keep you warm, without a lot of extra weight. It’s like wearing your favorite lightweight sweater when you need an extra layer. But, you could also make this shawl more of a fashion accessory rather than a layer of warmth if you used cotton-based yarn.
