Are you looking for a beginner-friendly crochet prayer shawl that you can make for a friend? The Ocean Waves Ripple Prayer Shawl pattern is perfect for you!
Of course, this doesn’t have to be used as a prayer shawl. Use it as a shawl accessory for any outfit or occasion. You will love the ripple effect, combined with the subtle texture that creates an absolutely stunning shawl you can work up quickly.
You will need to know how to double crochet into the back loop only, including basic increases and decreases. Color changes begin on a new row each time.

Introducing the Ocean Waves Ripple Crochet Prayer Shawl
The colors found at the beach are the inspiration behind this shawl design. I love the blues of the ocean, the white foam of the waves, and the beautiful gold and pink tones that you see in the sky during sunset.
To be honest, I had originally planned to make this shawl with a 6th color, another shade of blue. It would have turned out beautifully, too, but I really liked how the big blocks of color were coming together. And then, it got too long to add that sixth color to the mix.
It all worked out in the end because I’m really digging the odd number of colors, though. The white on the back panel is so serene and plays perfectly with the punches of color in the front. I’m already planning to make this again with an ombre color effect. And I think it would look beautiful in all one color, or even a variegated yarn.
Caron Simply Soft Yarn comes in so many colors, that you really can’t go wrong. Don’t get stuck in the yarn aisle for too long!
I’ve included an in-depth photo tutorial to walk you through the steps of this pattern. It is not a complicated pattern, but I want to ensure that you have visuals to go with the words.
Visuals help me keep track of my stitch counts when I’m designing, and I love to use them when crocheting. So if you’re a chart lover, this pattern has you covered. Also included is a stitch chart.
