A crocheted blanket square made with pastel blue, purple and pink yarn.

Welcome to square number five of the Beautiful Bugs Crochet-along, featuring this brand new butterfly blanket square C2C pattern!

At first, when I heard about a crochet blanket dedicated to bug lovers, I was a little grossed out. Bugs are not my favorite thing in the world, and will crocheted bugs be any better? I was so wrong! Each of the designers picked their bugs and they couldn’t have turned out any cuter.

Introducing the Butterfly C2C Crochet Blanket Square

Butterflies are one of the many beautiful bugs in the world, which is why I chose them as my square to design for this blanket. On one family vacation a few years ago, we went to a butterfly house in South Dakota. If you get the chance to visit one, I highly recommend it. There were so many species of butterflies floating around and even an opportunity to let one sit on your hand if you liked.

Back to this crochet pattern. It’s made using corner-to-corner crochet, and my sample used half double crochet stitches. If you prefer a larger-sized square, use double crochet C2C stitches. If you are looking for an alternative to using this chart as a C2C version, you could use it with regular colorwork stitches or even bobble stitches. For inspiration on these other styles, join the Elimee Designs Facebook Community.

You will love how many color options you can use throughout this square. I used my daughters’ favorite colors – pink, purple and blue, as the main colors, but you can try all warm colors or cool colors and get a completely different look. Don’t want to make all the different bugs? Crochet an all-butterfly blanket with 12 different butterfly squares.

I gave up on this blanket after the 3rd pattern when they stopped being able to be downloaded.
The 4th pattern was just a shrunk down picture and couldnt be used.
Not a fun thing… just an email jam up.
