Introducing the Spooky Spiders Mosaic Crochet Pattern
When working on my design for this blanket, I was daydreaming designs last Halloween and came across one of my favorite Halloween decorations. As one of the first Halloween decorations my husband and I bought as newlyweds many years ago, we purchased some black metal spiders that hold tealights.
I love how we can place them around the house in different spots. Just like real-life spiders, they appear in corners, on shelves, and in multiple rooms, often different from year to year because I forget exactly where they were the year before! My kids also enjoy it when we light them during dinner, adding an extra spooky glow in the darker evenings.
It was a lot of fun to use those fake spiders to create a cozy crochet version! Before you get started on the chart, be sure to make your foundation row (directions below) and then you’re on your way.
Video Tutorial for the Spooky Spiders Mosaic Crochet Blanket Section
There are both right-handed and left-handed video tutorials to help you crochet this mosaic spiders pattern. While this pattern technically doesn’t have any letters or numbers that requires you to read the chart in a certain direction, there are future sections in this blanket that will.

- Watch the left-handed video tutorial
- BLO – back loop only
- FLO – front loop only
Special Stitches
- bs – single crochet border stitch – work a regular single crochet stitch as the first and last stitch of each row (designated on the pattern chart). When inserting your hook to make this stitch, I recommend inserting it between the two vertical bars of the stitch below rather than under the top loops. This can help make it easier to crochet into these stitches when you’re working the envelope border
- FLO dc – worked into the front loop of the stitch that is two rows below. For example, a FLO dc in row 3 will be worked into the front loop of the designated stitch in row 1.
Pattern Notes:
- US Terms (US to UK terminology conversion)
- Multiples of 48 + 3
- You may choose to repeat the pattern as many times as you wish. Make sure your Foundation Row is made up of any multiple of 48 plus 3 extra stitches.
- If you are following along with the Halloween Mosaic Blanket CAL, the blanket uses 4 repeats, so your foundation row is (4×48) + 3 = 195 stitches.
- The foundation row for the blanket size uses FSC stitches. As an alternate option, ch 196, sc in second ch from hook, sc to end of the chain.
- Each row is worked in a different color.
- Fasten off at the end of each row.
- Single crochet stitches are worked in the Back Loop Only of the previous row unless otherwise noted
- Double crochet stitches are worked in the Front Loop Only of the stitch 2 rows below, skipping the stitch behind unless otherwise noted
- Example: a dc stitch in row 3 is made in the front loop of row 1, and the stitch in row 2 is skipped
- There is a chart and written instructions for right-handed and left-handed crocheters.
- All FLO dc stitches are made in the front loop of the stitch two rows below.
- Recommend using the negative stitch to eliminate gaps on the wrong side of the blanket.
- Do not weave in your ends at the end of each row. The envelope border will hide them.

Do we know when part 2 will come out
I am grateful for this pattern CAL. However, it is frankly impossible to follow along on this site. I can’t even scroll to the patterns without clicking on 900 ads. Is there a PDF version available?! Or should I wait for the CAL to be finished for a real pattern release?!?
Hi Annie! There is a PDF version available for purchase. After the CAL finishes, the format will remain the same – you can link from the main CAL page to each of the sections on the other designers’ blogs as you work through them.
How frequently are the pattern sections being released please?
Hello – they are being released each Monday and Thursday through October 23rd. You can find all of the sections with their listed release dates here: https://remingtonlane.com/halloween-mosaic-blanket-crochet-along
From the very beginning I’m confused. In all the written info I don’t see it clarified, unless I’m missing it, as to which color yarn row 1 (fsc) is. And is the fsc row not counted as row 1?
Oh goodness, I totally forgot to put that information in the directions! It’s Color A for the foundation row. Thank you for pointing that out Linda!
I don’t mean to sound ungrateful… but am I the only one who is having trouble hearing the videos? if I buy the ebook does it have direct access to the videos?
Hello! The eBook links to the CAL playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtqLDwQFHxjvIUAQ-4qgwTr2BIXonICBQ
How come there are not any written instructions for the 1stvpart of the blanket I can’t follow the chart that well
I prefer written instructions opposed to video tutorials. I haven’t looked yet …. but when you go to the video tutorial, see if there is a transcript that you can download. BTW, try being a LEFT handed crocheter who doesn’t read graphs.
Bonus: there IS a left handed video tutorial!
Hi Debi! For this crochet-along, the written instructions (left and right-handed) are only included in the eBook but I will consider that for the future. For help reading the charts, please check out this video all about how to read mosaic charts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Z8D0BwclsY
