A hand holding a dusty blue crochet prayer square that has a textured cross in the middle

The prayer shawl ministry at my church is blessed to have a wonderful group of women who make shawls year-round for those in need. But, as many shawls as we make, we often wish we could do more. Something we added to our repertoire a few years ago was a pocket crochet prayer square. They have turned out to be a huge hit, so I figured it was my turn to design one for you!

These little hand-held squares with a cross in the middle are the perfect symbol to give others in our community. Often, we give a prayer shawl to someone who is going through a tough time and then offer pocket prayer squares to that person’s family members. That way, everyone can get something that hopefully provides them some comfort in their time of need.

Introducing the Bobble Pocket Prayer Square

I think you are going to love making a crochet prayer square for so many reasons. For one, the texture of the cross. Bobble stitches create a beautiful texture which is really nice to hold onto and can be soothing. Even kids learning to pray will find their fidgety fingers can focus on the cross.

And since I know that you are still holding on to all of your scrap yarn, you’re going to love that these prayer squares use just a little bit. So you can make a bunch of these and use up every last bit!

Finally, you will love how quickly these prayer squares can be made. It takes me about 15 minutes to make a single square! They are perfect to whip up when you just have a few minutes to squeeze in some crochet time, or when you want to take a break between those larger projects.

There are so many reasons to love these pocket prayer squares!
