I don’t know about you, but my house always looks the prettiest when it’s decorated for fall and again Christmas. And when the Christmas decorations come down, I instantly miss the tiny touches scattered about. So to solve the decoration fallout, this mug rug crochet pattern is just the project to help beat the wintertime blues.

Plus, it’s perfect for using up your leftover yarn scraps and whips up in a jiffy. You can make several of these over a weekend. Switch up the colors and stripes in many ways so that you can make a coordinating set that gives each person their own coaster. Or, create gift sets to use for wedding showers, housewarming, and hostess gifts throughout the year.

Introducing the Easy Grit Stitch Mug Rug Pattern

When designing this mug rug pattern, I was curled up under a blanket daydreaming about snowy days and all the color and brightness that comes from seeing the snow-covered ground. The white and blue have a relaxing wintry vibe, but they are also cheery and can work for spring decor too.

If you haven’t tried the grit stitch yet, this is a great one to learn, and it’s perfect for beginners. It may look difficult, but it is made from alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches in a simple repeat. Already a grit stitch lover? Check out this washcloth.

The texture is great, and using cotton yarn means these mug rugs are durable, washable, and will absorb any condensation.

There are three different versions of this pattern, one solid and two different stripes options. Of course, you can create any variations of stripes yourself, making it even more fun! Use up all that scrap yarn in your stash and create sets of these for any of the holidays or to match your everyday decor.

Keep reading to follow the written pattern for each style below. But, if you need some additional step-by-step photos that walk you through the grit stitch, you can purchase the ad-free, PDF of this pattern on Etsy, Ravelry, and LoveCrafts.
