Are you participating in the Melange Blanket Crochet-Along? Or maybe you’re making your own blanket out of crochet blanket squares. Either way, I know you will enjoy this easy-to-follow pattern that you can use to whip up a square whenever you want a break from your bigger projects.
The term “melange” means a mixture or a medley, which is the perfect feeling you get seeing all of the different squares come together. Whether you use your favorite yarn purchased just for this blanket, or you are using up your yarn stash, the mismatched squares will come together to make a beautiful heirloom you will enjoy for many years to come.
So let’s take a look at what it takes to create the Loops Medley square!

Introducing the Loops Medley Crochet Blanket Square Pattern
It’s been fun designing a crochet blanket square for the crochet-along! In this case, I didn’t have any particular pattern in my head when I got started. I sort of sat around playing with a few different stitches and let the yarn come to life.
For this blanket square pattern, I used a mix of simple stitches to make it beginner-friendly and work up quickly, with minimal tails to weave in at the end (always a bonus!). With a mix of single crochet and half double crochet stitches, this square comes together with a slight texture by making the stitches in the front and back loops.
Once you’ve worked up all of the stripes, then you will add the border by continuing to stitch all the way around. You can always add more rounds to the border if you want something thicker or to create a larger size square.
After you’ve completed all of the squares for your blanket, it’s a good idea to block the squares before joining them together so that each square can be sized to match. It will make it much easier to join them too.
