I’m so excited to share section four of the Mosaic Nordic Winter Afghan crochet-along with you this week! One of my favorite winter scenes is snow-covered spruce trees because it makes me want to cozy up to a crackling fireplace and watch the snow fall. Thus, the Wintergreen Trees mosaic crochet pattern is my nod to those peaceful cozy winter days.
If you aren’t familiar with overlay mosaic, you are in for a real treat! This crochet along is the perfect project to learn and there are a ton of resources to help you get started. But, if you’re chugging along with the CAL, you can scroll on down to the chart below.

Introducing the Wintergreen Trees Mosaic Pattern
I’m a newbie to overlay mosaic – I learned a few months ago by taking this course from Juniper & Oakes – and I can honestly say that the overlay mosaic technique is truly one I think everyone should try at least once. I’m such a fan and there will definitely be more mosaic crochet in my life soon.
For this pattern, you will use two colors of your favorite worsted weight yarn to create two colors of trees in a classic silhouette. And believe it or not, it only uses single and double crochet stitches in the front and back loops.
Also, while this pattern is designed for a blanket, you can use it for a variety of other projects around the home. While measurements will vary slightly between my tension and yours, one long section could be used to make a winter scarf, or make the vertical repeat twice to create a table runner or even a pillow. Let your imagination run wild!

A Video Tutorial for the Wintergreen Trees Pattern
Here’s a left-handed tutorial on how to make this mosaic pattern. With mosaic crochet, in order to make the finished product match the chart exactly, left-handed crocheters need to follow the chart from left to right, while right-handers need to follow it from right to left.
Technically, because this pattern doesn’t have any words or a design that would look weird as a mirrored image, you can follow the Wintergreen Trees chart in either direction regardless of your crochet hand.
