The Granny Stitch Sampler Blanket Crochet Along is back for its 3rd year, and I’m so excited to be part of it again! Each week, you can look forward to a three new square patterns that showcase the versatility of this beloved stitch.
This year, I’m contributing a brand-new design called the Layered Grannies Square, which builds on the timeless appeal of the granny stitch in a fresh way. If you followed along last year, you might remember my Granny’s Comfort Square – a cozy and textured design that many of you enjoyed. I can’t wait to see how this new square adds character to your sampler blanket!

Introducing the Layered Grannies Crochet Blanket Square
The Layered Grannies Square puts a twist on the traditional granny motif by working the design in rows rather than rounds. Instead of the usual all-around construction, this square is built up row by row, giving it a striped effect while still keeping the clusters we all love about granny stitch.
The repeat is simple yet satisfying: a foundation of double crochet, followed by single crochet, and then a trio of granny stitch rows stacked together. This sequence is repeated for three sections before finishing with a clean single crochet border to frame the square. The result is a balanced, textured piece that’s beginner-friendly while still offering enough variation to keep the stitching engaging.
