Welcome to the Halloween Mosaic Blanket Crochet-Along! This free crochet-along features 13 spooky overlay mosaic crochet blanket sections, each designed by a different crochet designer, plus an envelope border to bring the entire blanket together.
Originally hosted as a live CAL in 2025, all of the patterns are now available, so you can start this Halloween blanket whenever you’re ready. Follow the sections in order, crochet at your own pace, and enjoy a few weeks of spooky crochet fun or take your time and make it a longer-term project.
I’m incredibly honored to bring you my very first collaborative CAL, where 12 other crochet designers and I each designed a different section of the blanket. Each section builds onto the next, resulting in on huge, cozy and festive blanket. I’m in awe of how amazing this turned out – the designers are incredibly talented!
This blanket is designed to get you ready for spooky season, ending with a festive and cozy blanket you can enjoy for Halloween, and pull out year after year! Grab your favorite fall yarn colors, your hook, and get ready to join a community of crocheters who are just as excited about Halloween as you are.

What is the Halloween Mosaic Blanket CAL?
If you haven’t tried mosaic crochet before, you’re in for a treat (no tricks here!). Mosaic crochet is a clever technique that uses basic crochet stitches – single crochet and double crochet – to create bold, colorful patterns. The result looks intricate and impressive, but once you learn the basics, it’s easier than you might think.
For this CAL, we’ve designed a blanket that’s full of Halloween spooks and spirits! We’re bringing the classic figures like ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, spiders, cats and more. The blanket is made up of 13 sections, each created by a different designer. Every week, a two new sections will be released, building on the last until your full blanket is complete.
If you are new to mosaic crochet, do not worry. You can still crochet this blanket! I’ll link to some video tutorials that can help you understand the basics, as well as get you on your way to falling in love with this technique.
How to Join the Halloween Mosaic Blanket CAL
There are several ways you can participate in this CAL:
- Self-paced: Bookmark this page, so you can work through the sections whenever you like.
- Community: Share your progress in the Remington Lane Crochet Facebook group.
- Email Challenge: Sign up and receive a new section every four days, with a suggested completion time of about 7-8 weeks.
How the Crochet Along Works
The Halloween Mosaic Blanket is made up of 13 overlay mosaic crochet sections, each designed by a different crochet designer, plus an envelope border. All of the section patterns are now available, so you can make the blanket whenever you like.
If you want to follow the original CAL pace, you can complete the project in about 7–8 weeks by working on one section every four days, with the envelope border at the end. If you prefer a slower pace, take your time! You can work on the blanket whenever it fits into your crochet schedule. And if you want to go faster, all of the patterns are already live, so you don’t have to wait for the next section.

- Once on the designer’s website, look for the pattern chart

Here are some common questions you may have:
1. Can I still make the Halloween Mosaic Blanket even though the live CAL has ended?
Absolutely! All 13 Halloween Mosaic Blanket sections are available, along with the envelope border. Each section chart is free on the participating designer’s blog, so you can start the blanket whenever you’re ready and crochet at your own pace.
2. How do I join the Halloween Mosaic Blanket email challenge?
Simply enter your email address using the sign-up form above. You’ll receive the first blanket section and then a new section every 4 days, along with helpful links and resources to guide you through the project. You’ll also receive the printable materials guide and progress tracker.
3. How long does the Halloween Mosaic Blanket CAL take?
If you follow the suggested email challenge schedule of one section every four days, you’ll complete the 13 sections in about 7 weeks and can then move on to the envelope border. You can also crochet faster or take as long as you need since the patterns are already available.
4. I don’t know how to overlay mosaic crochet. Where can I learn?

5. Can I make the blanket in different colors?
Of course! The colors shown in the original Halloween Mosaic Blanket are just one option. Feel free to choose colors that match your style or create your own spooky color combination. One of the most fun parts of this project is seeing how the same mosaic designs can look completely different depending on the colors you choose. 6. Do I have to purchase the PDF Pattern eBook?
Nope! You can follow along with this CAL for free by coming back to this page to find the next section of the blanket anytime you want.
What You Need to Know About the Halloween Mosaic Blanket
Before you can get started with your Halloween Mosaic Blanket, here are some details you need to know.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Materials:
- Size 3 Weight, Stylecraft Special DK 100% Acrylic Yarn (Alternate: Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! Sport 100% Acrylic, Patons Astra 100% Acrylic, King Cole Big Value DK 100% Acrylic)
- Color A – Apple (Green) – 767 yards (3 skeins)
- Color B – Black – 2,741 yards (9 skeins)
- Color C – White – 860 yards (3 skeins)
- Color D – Dandelion (Yellow) – 107 yards (1 skein)
- Color E – Spice (Orange) – 558 yards (2 skeins)
- Color F – Proper Purple – 532 yards (2 skeins)
- G-6 (4mm) Hook
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- (Optional) LumosLumos Knitting Light – this is a lifesaver for working with black yarn or in low-light conditions (like moving nights!).
Gauge: 15 st x 20 rows = 4″ in a swatch of overlay mosaic crochet
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 56 x 71 inches (142.2 cm x 180.3 cm) when laying flat
Stitch Abbreviations:
- sl st – slip stitch
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- bs – single crochet border stitch
- dc – double crochet
- fsc – foundation single crochet (optional)

- BLO – back loop only
- FLO – front loop only
Special Stitches
- bs – single crochet border stitch – work a regular single crochet stitch as the first and last stitch of each row (designated on the pattern chart). When inserting your hook to make this stitch, I recommend inserting it between the two vertical bars of the stitch below rather than under the top loops. This can help make it easier to crochet into these stitches when you’re working the envelope border
- FLO dc – worked into the front loop of the stitch that is two rows below. For example, a FLO dc in row 3 will be worked into the front loop of the designated stitch in row 1.
Pattern Notes
- US Terms (US to UK terminology conversion)
- Multiples of 48 + 3
- The foundation row for the blanket uses FSC stitches. As an alternate option, ch 196, sc in second ch from hook, sc to end of the chain.
- Every row is worked in a different color.
- Fasten off at the end of each row.
- There is a chart and written instructions for right-handed and left-handed crocheters.
- All FLO dc stitches are made in the front loop of the stitch two rows below.
- Recommend using the negative stitch to eliminate gaps on the wrong side of the blanket.
- Do not weave in your ends at the end of each row. The envelope border will hide them.
- There is no transition from section to section. Crochet the last row of a section according to the instructions and then start at Row 1 of the next section.
How to Read the Mosaic Crochet Pattern Charts
For this blanket, you will want to ensure you are following the mosaic charts from the same direction in each row. For mosaic crochet, you do not go back and forth for each row. There is a section that you do not want to work in the wrong direction, or you risk having backward lettering, so be sure to read the charts according to which hand you use to crochet.
- Right-handed Crocheters
- Blanket is made in rows from right to left
- Each row begins with 1 sc, has a repeat of 48 stitches, 1 stitch to even out the pattern, and 1 sc at the end of the row
- Left-handed Crocheters
- Blanket is made in rows from left to right
- Each row begins with 1 sc, 1 stitch to even out the pattern, has a repeat of 48 stitches, and 1 sc at the end of the row

I don’t understand why this is advertised as a free cal-along. I have been to several sites to get my free chart only to find that after I have signed up for their newsletter I still can’t get anything. I have never seen anything so unprofessional!
I cant find a chart for Section 3. Help!
There is no chart to down load!!
I can not get section 2 to print right. the graph is too big the chart will not fit on the paper it cuts off1- 3 and stops printing at 48. Can you help me fix this? Thank you
I’m following along with my first CAL! I just recently started mosaic crochet from Juniper and Oakes summit last month and I’ve done a few of my own projects already since then. I’m using this as a stash buster while staying on color theme.

Will all sections have matching videos? Will these be added to the official playlist? Or will I have to hunt them down and/or deal with missing videos for some sections?
Hi! I will add additional video tutorials to the official playlist if the designer has a tutorial for their section. Some designers may not choose to do a tutorial as that was not a requirement for the CAL. However, if you watch the video in the playlist that walks through how to read the charts, you can apply the concepts to any of the sections in the blanket.
