There’s nothing cozier than your favorite blanket, right? As a parent, I know that’s my first suggestion to my kids when they are sick – go get cozy in your blanket. They grab their crochet blankets that grandma made and snuggle up with me while their bodies rest. With today’s blanket square pattern, you can make a patchwork crochet blanket that can be given to a sick child or donation center.
While I’ve never had to face something as scary as childhood cancer, I know that the love that radiates through handmade blankets can be an integral part of healing and comfort for any sickness, including cancer. I appreciate you taking the time to ensure that the sickest of children have their very own snuggly blanket to keep them comforted.

Introducing the Textured Puff Stitch Square
This blanket square is inspired by my St. Peregrine collection. St. Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer, which is why I name the hat and prayer shawl as such, so it only made sense that I use the same texture for this charity make-along supporting childhood cancer.
With two equally beautiful textures, it’s a reversible blanket square and you can’t go wrong with the side you choose for your blanket. I used Caron One Pound yarn because that’s what I had in my stash, but you can use any of your favorite worsted weight yarns such as Lion Brand Pound of Love, Red Heart Super Saver, etc.
This square isn’t overly fussy and is beginner-friendly if you know how to make half double crochet and puff stitches. I have tutorials for both if you need them, and once you get into the groove with the pattern you can work it up pretty quickly.
